Reviews for - MaMa Lotion - Mandelic & Malic Acid M2  - Posted By: georgia4 06-16-2009 I tried MaMa in the past and could use it because the fragrance and harsh ingredients (parabens, polyacrylamide) irritated me so upon the recommendation of my esthetician I tried the M2 line (same makers as the mama). It worked fantastic! I was able to use the HP skin refinish and saw amazing results on my downright messy face (you name it, i've got it). If you're looking for the same results, but don't want the irritation, I would suggest trying the M2 instead of mama lotion. CARAMEL TONED AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN... I am a 25 yr old African American woman and I have suffered with acne brown spots, acne scarring, or hyperpigmentation... whatever you want to call it.... all my teenage years up until now. I have a beautiful brown color tone, that naturally glows especially in the summer, but have alway suffered from scarring on my face and lower back. I pay better attention to the health of my skin overall now and I don't go overboard with trying products, if I use it and it works wonderfully I stick to it. I used this product with my Proactive. This stuff tightened my skin, made my skin smoother to where when I do wear make up it looks flawless, and my some of my spots have completely gone, while others are fading wonderfully. At first it burned my skin because I wasn't using a moisterizer, so I stopped use for a week, went back to it used a moisterizer, iand my skin would peel which is actually great because its just peeling away the ugly layers of your skin makeing way for more beatiful skin underneath, then I ordered a green tea mosterizer from ProActive and its a better moisterizer and more heavier but not on your skin, but it worked awesome with MaMa. YOU HAVE TO USE A REALLY GOOD MOISTERIZER THAT WON"T CLOG YOUR PORES, THATS HEAVY IN MOISTERIZING BUT LIGHT AND NON GREASY ON YOUR FACE!!! TIP: DONT RUB YOUR MOISTERIZER IN... JUST APPLY OVER THE MaMa & LET IT SIT AND SETTLE & OBSORB ITSELF W/MaMa. I'm not embarrassed to wear my plain face around my man because its not that bad anymore. I see that now I only get a bump or two when I am PMS'n..ugh.. but any other time my face has no break outs anymore which allows my face to heal more. Everyone wont be able to use this product, and it won't work for everyone, thats just the nature of products overall but its well worth a try, and statistically if you looked at these reviews seems like majority of people here love it just as well as I do. I eat healthier now for 4 months and my skin has changed, I drink nothing but water, I take vitamins, I exfoliate my skin from head to toe once a week, I power walk which makes me sweat (sweating works wonders for your skin and pores as well as let you know your burning calories), and when I find a good health & beauty product I stick to it like MaMa, Proactive! However, I tried the M2 skin refinish thinking it would be as good if not better. I was wrong. Unfortunately, it clogged my pores and made me breakout. It was very disappointing considering the progress I had made using the Mama lotion. As a matter a fact, I started using the sample of Mama lotion waiting to get my order and noticed a difference within a 2 days. I love this stuff and have learned my lesson. I have had melasma on my cheeks for about 10 years. I have two children, and I understand that these are pregnancy marks and may be a result of contraceptive pills. I had tried Eldoquin 4%, Tretinoin for a few years, and recently Meladerm cream for 2 months. I always use sun protection of at least SPF 30. Hoping to cure melasma internally, I have stopped using contraceptive pills for about 6 months. I tried taking MSM Powder from Holland & Barrett, for 2 months, as this product claims to fade melasma and works on some women. However MSM powder seemed to help but at the same time made my hair loss, so I stopped taking it. All of the above did not help much, until I tried Mama, at the same time taking Pyncnogenol 30mg. For more information on Pyncnogenol please refer to the links below. Mama helps me to peel while Pyncnogenol clear and prevent the new pigmentation. I have used Mama and Pyncnogenol for 6 weeks now, and my melasma has been lighten by a half. Finally, something that delivers on its promises. Even though I'm in my 50s, I still have acne breakouts, and this product greatly reduces those as well as clogged pores. All I keep thinking is why this product doesn't have an infomercial like Proactiv? This product truly is the best kept secret! A little about me...I am a 32 year-old African-American female who has stuggled with acne and dark spots for over 10 years now. I never had acne until my freshman year in college - that's when my face started to break out really bad. I think it was because of the hard water we had in our dorm showers. Anyway, since college my skin has been prone to breakouts which eventually turned into dark spots. I have tried everything from microdermabrasion to just about every acne product on the market...nothing seemed to work for me...until now! I can honestly say that Mama Lotion works! In only one week, I already see and feel a difference in my skin. It took about 3 days for me to start seeing results. While this product doesn't lighten your skin, it does cause dead skin cells to peel away. Once the dead skin falls off, you are left with a smooth, fresh layer of skin underneath. I started to see some of the most recent dark spots disappear within 4 days. Some of the older dark spots which I've had for years will no doubt take longer to go away but I'm confident that if I keep using the product they WILL GO AWAY! I have never reviewed a product before but I felt compelled to review this one to share my testimony. Although it's only been a week, I know there will be more testimonies to come. I'm curious to compare my before picture with the one I plan to take next month. The only things I will say about the product is to wash your hands after applying it. If you don't wash the Mama Lotion off your hands, you will start to see the skin on your hands peel...trust me this happened to me. Also, there will be some slight peeling so be sure to use some type of exfoliant in conjuction with the product. I find the exfoliant helps to remove the dead skin faster. Lastly, I find the product to be a bit sticky. Therefore, I only use it close to bedtime when I know I'm not going anywhere else for the evening. I have now been using it 6 months and wow, I really am pleased. My skin feels great and much less oily. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I haven't had any major breakouts for several months. I occassionally look in the mirror and I am amazed that this is my skin. Those who have battled their skin for years will appreciate this product. It worked for me. About half-way through the bottle, I began to use a facial scrub before applying the lotion. This accelerated the results without causing irritation. Just ordered a second bottle. Tips for defective bottle  - Posted By: April 03-08-2009 I like this lotion quite a bit. I have adult acne. It seems to help with it, but is no cure. It seems like my skin builds up a tolerence to it, and I have to quit using for awhile and then begin using again to get results. For everyone complaining about the dispenser, I had that problem too. If you store your bottle upside down and dispense it that way too it will work. For some reason the pump doesn't have a tube that goes to the bottom of the bottle. I found this out after having several bottles and always having to take them apart to get the lotion out. Storing it this way also seems to help it not get clogged up. Hope this helps! I have been able to tolerate the Mama Lotion much better! My skin feels soft, smooth, less blotchy, and more moisturized. Best of all, I know that I am protecting myself from future skin damage due to the High anti-oxidant level in the Coffeeberry. I have been using MaMa Lotion for a month now and my melasma spots are almost gone from my cheeks and very light on my forehead (forehead being the largest and first area to start melasma). My pores are tiny. I too noticed some acne "purging" in the beginning, but keep up with the lotion...the purging is temporary and only brings stuff to the surface. I have been using it every other day since I got it. I use it at night and after I put it on, I immediately put my Neutrogena Anti-Oxidant Age Reverse Night Cream. I have only noticed a little bit of flaking, nothing too noticeable to others and it is true if you have darker areas this will flake off to reveal smooth even skin underneath. It's IMPERATIVE that you wear sunscreen during the day when using this product (I use Neutrogena Age Shield Face SPF 70) as it will make your face more photo sensitive. Also make sure to wear a big hat to cover your face as well. If you don't, your melasma spots will come right back and you are back to square one. Oh, and I also have noticed my wrinkles are erasing too by using MaMa Lotion ! It started working 1 week into use...I saw a friend that told me my face looked very even and great....something every melasma sufferer hopes to hear ! I shared the MaMa Lotion with her. It hasn't made my skin peel on my face too much, but I am starting to see vibrance & my actual skin color. I am African American- light skinned and it is soo awful to have brown spots on your face, back, chest. I am giving a 5 because I had a scar from 1 bump that scarred, as I tried to remove the dead skin myself... it was very dark brown & someone commented it looked like a 3rd nipple!! Pretty embarrassing!! I used mama for 2 days after I got it.. the brown dead skin started to slough off!! After 3 days it is a little red around the area, but it is no longer raised, dark! I can see my skin now!! I am soo relieved & grateful, now in another two weeks I will probably have clear skin on my face and scar will be gone! I am using this with PCA and my skin is soft and hopefully will continue to get better. I have hyperpigmentation and acne so I now feel I have the tools to combat both! I used Murad before, still brokeout and kept using product to clear up the bumps!! Also try Benzaclin which is Benzoyl peroxide, and erthymyocin(antibacterial). I went to Hawaii 6 yrs ago and ruined my skintone due to mixing otc products and the cause of the sun..I started using Mama lotion since October 08. I am still working at my acne scars but they fade faster than using lemon juice or coco butter..I do still get acne during my hormonal times but the cystic acne does not take half my face, not painful and pop-able after two days. I still scar but mama lotion fades it out in about two weeks..My suggestion is to exfoliate well, apply mama lotion and always apply SPF. I apply mama lotion twice a day. I use it every other night. It has smoothed out my skin and evened my skin tone. I am 37 and used to put baby oil on my face..yuck. I have been to the dermatologist for chemical peels..which I love. With oily skin I didn't use moisturizer with it. I didn't seem to get results. I tried it again a month ago, using it every other day with moisturizer and I have noticed a real improvement in my skin. I think the moisturizer is the key. My skin is smoother and less oily. My coloring is more even as well. I have been using it just over a month and I'm happy with the results. I have fair, sensitive skin, and the acne I have dealt with for years had left dark reddish-brown discolorations and scars all over my face. Now, one year later, most of the discolorations have disappeared, and when I get new breakouts they clear up quickly without leaving scars or red spots. I use MaMa Lotion every other evening, gently exfoliate with a warm cloth in the morning, and of course follow with a good moisturizer. On alternate evenings I use other acne products on my skin, and as long as I exfoliate in the morning and use that moisturizer, I don't have any problems with flaky or dry skin. I'm very nervous and very hopeful that this is the product that will finally work on my horrible acne scars. I am very light complected and every pimple leaves a nasty red scar whether I pick them or not. I'm tired of having to cake on make up everyday to try and hide the scars and tired of waking up almost daily with a new blemish. Anyways, the part I was wondering about is if this product can be used in conjunction with other systems. I have recently started using Proactiv to try and stop the breakouts but wanted an additional product such as this one to take care of the scarring...Does anyone know if mixing the two is a bad idea?? My review is very similar to one written by a 57 year old person. I have very oily/combination skin, ongoing acne and scarring as a result of my many years of acne. I, too, have received acne treatment from dermatologists, acid peels, used many prescription and non prescription products. None of these methods or products have worked--I actually had become very frustrated and somewhat depressed that I could not find a product that worked for my skin. I read the reviews for the MaMa lotion and figured I didn't have anything to lose by trying it. I have been using the MaMa Lotion and related products for almost a month; in less than a week, I could see a dramatic difference. During the first week various individuals in my office commented how great I looked, or they couldn't figure out what was so different about me--I glow!!!! I have acne scars, large pores, and uneven skin tone, and this product has literally transformed my face! I LOVE IT!!! I now wish that I had taken a before and after picture--really, I can now put my make up on in the morning and my face looks great throughout the day. This morning I had someone tell me that I looked like I was 35. Yes, this product not only helps clear your complexion but it firms and literally erases the lines and wrinkles--I look years younger!! My 25 year old daughter was very skeptical and now she is using it, so I am ordering more today. Please note that I did experience some peeling but it is well worth it (my daughter doesn't like the peeling but who cares if your complexion gets clear). My make up looks super, and my face glows. I can't recall when my complexion looked this good, and if it looks this great now, I can't wait until I have used it for a longer period of time. Best ever  - Posted By: Anonymous 09-17-2008 I have been reading the reviews for months and was afraid to purchase this product; I finally decide to when nothing else works; I was waiting for a month before I write a review, but I couldn't wait,it's now three weeks; this product is the best ever; I was using acne medication the doctor prescribe and I stop using it after I see how this product works; I haven't broke out since like I use to , I also use to broke out using the acne medication; my acne scares are getting lighter and my skin texture is much better; I don't have to use foundation anymore, I only use a light amount of power which is good enough to hide the scars, that's how light my scars got. Using a good moisture is also very important and using a good amount to prevent you looking dry or peeling, is also important. I will be using this product for a long time. I use a lot of other products, but I always go back to Mama and my first comment is always how much I love it! I use it for pigmentation mostly. Now that summer is almost over I will probably use it more. One day in the sun, even with sunblock will set you back! Love it for spot treating an occaisional breakout. PS, if it feels sticky, you have used too much! Pea size is plenty. If your skin feels sensitive, use it after your moisturizer. I didn't see immediate results but I saw amazing results after a few months. My dark spots from acne picking are clearing up, much lighter, and I can wear less heavy makeup. What a godsend. I'm hoping that within the next year I can leave the house without makeup. After suffering for over 30 years with extremely bad acne, I can wait a few more months for lasting results. The only reason I didn't rate the product a 5 is because I don't like that the dispenser clogs so easily and it is very difficult to unclog. The spa personnel giving me the facial looked at my face under a special light and said "I don't understand it you have absolutely no sun damage, and you have lived in Florida for 26 years?" I do have some sun damage on my neck and chest but the mama lotion has made a significant improvement in my face. I brought the mama lotion to the spa because they were all curious about it. Recently I have been using mama lotion on my husband who has brown spots and he is the most skeptical person around. Now he does admit that mama lotion really works and he likes using it. It has taken years off his appearance. I am so happy with this product and will use it forever. I have the occasional breakout also and this helps with everything! It has reduced my fine lines and I am highly satisfied. My husband and I run a medispa and I could use anything I wanted but this works gently but effectively. Ladies do not hesitate to add this to your nightly skin care a couple of times per week. MaMa lotion has worked so well. The texture of my skin has improved with just two weeks of use. I think that this is one of the best kept secrets. My daughter in Dallas, Texas turned me on to this incredible product. Not only does my skin look clearer, but it is less oily and more radiant. I used the Green Creams and Retin-A for about 3 months and was looking for some stronger Retin-A Gel when someone at SkinCareRX recommended the MaMa Lotion to me. I at first didn't take the recommendation and continued another month on Retin-A without really the results I thought I should get. Therefore I decided to try this MaMa Lotion. What a great product. When I woke up in the morning my skin didn't feel oily as it usually does. My skin is such that I am able to use this product every night. After a week using this product my skin starting feeling smoother. I have been using this product for about 6 weeks now and have not had any breakouts. In the past I would break out here and there and then I would have white heads on my nose area and under the eye area. Since using this product that condition has gone away. I don't write reviews very often and mine is not to promote the product or advertise SkinCareRX but only to pass my experience with this product and to help someone else like it has helped me. I am looking forward to see what kind of results I will get after using this product for 12 months. Give it a try, it's only $40+ to see if it works for you. As previous reviewers already mentioned, it takes a lot of time, diligence, consistency, and above all patience before you'll start to see results. I had moderate acne scarring (pitted scars, depressed fibrotic scars, hyper-pigmentation...you get the picture), and in particular, one huge boxcar scar in the middle of my lip that bothered me for years. Mama lotion, however, took care of all of that. My skin has gotten better week by week, and that huge boxcar is nearly gone. I can't emphasize enough how well this thing works. Unlike others with sensitive skin, I'm actually able to use it every night following a thorough exfoliation with Clearasil Ultra cleansing pads. I find the beta-hydroxy acid in the Clearasil does a good job of getting rid of the top layer of dead skin, preparing it for the alpha-hydroxy acid combo in Mama which I apply afterwards. This may not work for those with sensitive skin, but if you're willing to give it a try, I'd highly suggest it! I'll continue to use Mama for the next year and can't imagine how my skin will look like in yet another 12 months. I have a condition that makes me break out and b4 i got diagnosed and treated, my whole face was covered with acne- serious acne. They left scars all over my face. I am an Africa America but i am not really dark in complexion so my whole face was spotty. I was ashame to go outside because my face was very horrible. And then i found this website and read all the reviews on MAMA lotion and decided to give it a try. It helped my face a lot. I still have to use make up to cover up but my face is a lot better ( like 80% better than before). The only problem now is i started having fine lines around my mouth and i am only 23. MaMa did not help for the fine lines so i advise any one using this to have a very good moisturizer. I am going to move on from Mama because it seems like it stop working on the scars but i will certainly have a reserve just in case. I just discovered another product online just like i discovered Mama.I will advise any one who has second thoughts about buying Mama to go ahead and try it coz it really works. Mostly moderate acne with a few large ones every now and again. I've been using the MaMa lotion for about a month now, and my face is 95% clear! I do think the rest just needs a bit more time to finish working out but this stuff is incredible! I wash with Kinerase cleanser and then use the MaMa every night. If you're just starting with it, use every other night or as directed because it takes a bit of getting used to. In the morning I cleanse again and just use a moisturizer (Kinerase cream) with a spf15 lotion over top of it (proactiv). I don't even need foundation anymore; MaMa has faded my acne scars and freckles as well as clearing my skin; it's so nice! I've tried Proactiv, scrubs, masks and almost everything else (including Retin-A) and this is the only stuff that works with a minimum of irritation (you may experience some at first but mine went away within the week, now I have none except for when I put it on at night and then it just itches/stings for a minute). I have been using this for about 6 months and it is the most valuable possession i own. I have suffered from humiliating acne for about 10 years and now within about the last 4 years the scars and large pores have been catching up to me as well. The first morning after I used this all of my blackheads disappeared OVERNIGHT and have never returned. My red blotchy scars are 85% gone and I only use it about twice a week, I am only about 3/4 through my first bottle after about 6 months. On the days after I use it I have no mid day or even end of the day oiliness what so ever. Needless to say my breakouts are completely gone, i think ive had 3 pimples since i started using this. I did peel a little if i use it less than 2 days apart but a little apricot scrub and its all gone. So, when I heard about MaMa lotion from one of my beauty boards, I just had to try it. However, the price was a bit scary - until someone told me that it lasts for months. I figured I would give it a try, and if it did not work, I could always get my money returned. I also have acne, which never seems to go away. I may be lucky to have 2-3 days of clear skin, but they always come back. In addition to acne, I am mixed with Black & Puerto Rican, so I have hyperpigmentation here and there, and my acne scars stay for at least 6 months at a time. I tried MaMa lotion, loved the burning sensation (means it's working!!), but hated the skin peeling. Now wait - I am happy that my skin peeled...it had to remove the dead surface skin. BUT, the peeling took a few days, and I spent a few hours scrubbing with a washcloth. Still a 5 star product though!! One thing I have noticed. If I have a pimple, I just dab a small amount on it, and within 2-3 days, the pimple dries out. The skin also peels off (still a bit dark, but it lightens). I also get cystic pimples (HATE THEM!!), so I must make sure NOT to apply MaMa lotion on them. Have tried to apply the lotion to my cystic acne, and it took longer to heal. Just a warning for you all. Overall - this product lasts forever...and please, after you apply the product, apply a good moisturizer after 5 minutes. I put some MaMa on two specific hyperpigmentation spots on my face. I noticed it burned a bit more than usual, upon application and in regards to the duration, and when I awoke this morning, the spots were darker---ALOT darker. I just chalked it up to MaMa's collection of disappointments to a suffring sista, until I started touching the area and noticed that the skin was very scaly. I picked at one of the spots and let out a scream of delight as the "dark spot" peeled right off my skin, revealing perfectly colored skin underneath. Ditto for the second "dark spot". I'm like, wow, how things do change. And quickly. I think it took this long (2 months) for MaMa to work in my skin, and the dark spots, while alarming at first, are the ingredients in MaMa pushing the darkened skin closer to the skin's surface, thus appearing "darker" than before. Once you see this, don't give up faith...maintain your regimen and the "dark spot" (i.e. hyperpigmented skin that is ready to be removed) can easily be peeled away manually, with exfoliation or while washing your face with a washcloth. What a diffrence a day makes. Needlesstosay, I'm excited and will maintain my MaMa regimen... Any other stories out there similar to mine??? Nucelle provided me immediate relief of oiliness with less clogging, slow but steady lightning of hyperpigmentation without any irritation. Ran out of Nucelle serum, brought the MAMA out and my results, so far, are getting better than ANYTHING I've tried. I currently use the nucelle line w/out the serum replacing it with MAMA. The Moisture Shine Control is key for my oily skin and works better than anything. I am no longer on harsh prescription topicals and no longer have to apply heavy concealer. Bottom line,MAMA with nucelle has hepled my acne, oily skin and melasma. Finally. I read all the reviews left on this site BEFORE purchasing the product, and opted to purchase because #1) I was out of resources (tried numerous products, including ProActive to NO avail) and #2) the VAST MAJORITY of reviews left on this site were exuberant in their love for MaMa lotion. I've used the product for almost three months now, and have no significant changes in my hyperpigmentation. If anything, my skin looks a bit more wrinkly in the spots I put the lotion. I eat healthy, drink lots of water, but still have hyperpigmentation... Very unhappy. At first I was excited so I used MaMa every other day. Then I calmed down, stopped using it for a week because my skin became overly dry, and rectified it by applying shea butter on my face to rejuvenate and rehydrate my skin. The I used MaMa every three days, easy on the dosages. That's been my routine thus far and I'm very disappointed with its "results". I've experienced NO peeling, and No lightning effects. I don't want to give up though; I've suffered from acne -thus hyperpigmentation- since I was in 3rd grade, and I just made 25!!! Any suggestions???? So, im giving mama lotion til the end of february and if i see no change im going back on obagi. I used a sample of mama lotion on an emerging cyst - and the next morning - it brought it to the surface, reduced the redness, and made it smaller - it basically sped up the natural process of the cyst. It also overnight reduced the pigmentation on old larger acne marks that I have been trying to get rid of with HQ. This stuff will speed up the process of bringing CURRENTLY existing pimples and blocked pores to the surface, which were under surface. So it actually doesnt make it worse - it just speeds up the process of it erupting on your face. So with or without the lotion - they would have come eventually. Also, you should really not be using this on sensitive dry skin - ie the eyes area and the chest area - these places have little to know oil glands - you are asking for permanent damage. Dont do it. Plus, there is a dimishing effect after long-term use, meaning the difference of skin tone will be greater at the beginning of use, and then only small improvements will be noticed. If you stop usage, skin will revert back to what is normal for your skin. Lotion is great for spot treatment on blemishes. I think it is better for normal/oily skin than dry/normal skin. If you have dryer skin, after MaMa soaks in, add moisturizer. Watch samples - they are not packaged in a stable environment and lotion may lose its potency. My samples were nothing compared to the actual bottled lotion. The bottled lotion is packaged correctly and feels 'stronger' than the samples, only because the samples are in a tube allowing air and light inside, rendering the ingredients almost useless. I have some small pitted scars left from the acne which I just hate! Anyways, the lotion didn't make them go away. I noticed that they would make my scars look darker and more red one day, then my scars would look lighter another day. So it hasn't really worked for my scars. HOWEVER, I do like this lotion because it clears up most of my pimples. When I have a small pimple, I'll put it on, and the pimple will usually go away within 2-3 days, and it never "grows" any larger. Also, I've noticed that my pores have gotten smaller also, but they're still there. The only really bad thing is that I started getting a dry patch on my chin, so I stopped using the lotion for awhile. But now I've resumed using it because whenever I don't use it, I tend to get a few pimples here and there. Whenever I put it on, I usually only feel the tingle for about 3-4 seconds, then it's gone. I am an African American female and this product is the only thing that has ever made a huge difference in my skin. My skin was post acne, with occassional breakouts, but lots of scarring and large pores. My pores are now significantly smaller and scarring reduced by approximately 50%. I've been using the product for a month now. It is advised to use the product every other day, but I use it daily. I use an SPF 30 sunscreen cream during the day and wash with a Aveeno cleanser with a mild scrub. This keeps my skin from looking dry and exfoliates so that I'm not peeling under my makeup. Also, during the day I use mineral powder makeup which covers well, but is lightweight. I feel that with regular use, I will be able to use little to no makeup. My skin has never looked better and I am 37 years old. I feel that each person has to know their skin and adjust the usage and their daytime regimen to the product and anyone can have great results. If your skin is especially sensitive, then use it less and increase usage over time and protect yourself from the sun during the day. I found that I still had occassional breakouts because I stopped using my Acne Free Repair lotion containing benzoyl peroxide, so I use it during the day and it keeps my skin under control. I'm someone who endured decades of painful (Phenol acid) peels for acne scarring (saucer shaped depressed scars) This type of scar is difficult to work with. Be willing to give it a year or more for visible signs of improvement. Remember that the remodeling of COLLAGEN is a long term process. The most visible benefits in the short term are: Reduced pore size, reduced debris in pores, some skin tightening and smoother skin. That's great in itself! I laugh at complaints of "burning" when using MAMA. After years of having pure acid used on my skin without a sedative, realize it can be MUCH worse. I would like to point out that my SEBORRHEA DERMATITIS is NOW controlled through the use of MAMA without further prescriptions. Why? Because it manifests where ever hair grows: eyebrows, mustache etc. Apparently, MAMAs peeling effect does not allow for the associated rash to spread. Now that in itself is incredible and a miracle! I would recommend ALPHA LIPOIC ACID i.e. N. V. Perricone's products he also carries products for "acne" (available at his website or Sephora). He is a DERMATOLOGIST. I have oily skin and severe dark, old acne marks near my chin area. At first, it seemed to make my dark mrks appear darker... however that went away quickly... it has cut down my oily skin, my marks appear to be getting lighter, skin is real smooth.. all in a week!! This is my regimine.. i wash my face with a combo of my facial cleaner and baking soda (mild exfoliant), use 2 squirts of the lotion and make dots around my face so it will distribute evenly, then blend on... after 15 mins i put on ana aveno moisturizer... i use it every day after work, when i know i wont be going out anytime soon!! best product ever!! hope this helps!! I have never written a review about ANYTHING, especially not a skincare item. frankly, till now, no skincare product I have used warranted a review; most have simply been returned, or discarded in disgust. let me describe my situation. I have sensitive, oily-with-dry surface, touchy, Irish/Latin [?] skin. so I'm too pale to tan, but if I do get sun pigment, it is DARK. some years ago, I went to sephora and bought a product with 2% hydroquinone in it to fade some [minor] sun damage on my left cheek. the clerk assured me that the product was 100% safe, and I could use as much of it, as often as I wanted to. well, it faded the spot. UNTIL...a few years later, when the ENTIRE cheek area turned a horrid dark mottled brown color. I quickly researched hydroquinone, and discovered that it is banned in europe due being mildly carcinogenic- I'm sure this depends on the product and the concentration- and also that people using it were experiencing a pigmental 'recoil' effect. the melanocytes- the cells responsible for pigmentation- are sent a 'turn off' message by hydroquinone; when usage of the product is ceased, the cells quickly begin to make lots and lots of melanin. no, this doesn't happen to everyone; but it sure happened to me. and I tried EVERYTHING to fade that ugly brown patch. [when the pigmentation first showed up, people started telling me that I had eyeshadow/ink/a bruise on that cheek. it was pretty bad!] so I try everything from sephora. I try stuff my esthetician recommends. I try 'burning' it off with high concentrations of alpha-hydroxy acid [don't try it- it is painful.] nothing worked. so I saw the MAMA LOTION advertised- after a lot of research done on the web- and thankfully, the great people at SKINCARERX offered the great trial samples. and oh, baby! yeah, it peeled; yeah, it burned a little. nothing major, nothing icky. I had Keratosis Pilaris on my arms and melasma on my face after the birth of my first child. After 1 week, I saw results in both places. It is like a miracle gel. I continued using it and have since had my 2nd child. My melasma never came back as severe. I had tried Tri-Luma and peels in the past for the melasma and nothing gave me the results that this lotion did. I highly reccommend it. It seems to help the fine lines around the eyes as well. It does everything! I'm really surprised doctors don't reccommend it. These procedures were way too expensive and the results only lasted up to a yr. and then you'd have to get more done. So then I really started giving up hope until I came across this website and read the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. My face felt smooth the next day and then the day after my face started to peel (just like it said), I havn't broken out any more than I already am. My scars seem a little lighter. I have melasma, mostly on top of my nose and sides of my face along my cheek bones. It's hereditary, also due to use of birth control pills and hormonal changes. I have tried almost every product available in the market, visited numerous dermatologists, spent $100's of dollars and nothing ever worked. I used prescription products containing the maximum amount of hydroquinone, Lustra and Tri-Luma. Tri-Luma is supposed to be the most effective prescription treatment for melasma, it's very expensive, $120 for one tube. I didn't see any improvement after using these products! The dark spots on my nose and cheeks never faded away. Tri-Luma is only supposed to be used for 8 weeks since in addition to hydroquinone also has steroids which can cause skin atrophy. I did start seeing a little bit of this on my skin after only 6 weeks of using this product. MaMa Lotion is the best product I have used in the last 8 years. I recommend it to anyone who suffers from dark spots on their face, hands or any other part of their body. The product causes a slight peeling at first, but if you start using it according to the instructions, you should not have any problems. My skin is very sensitive; MaMA Lotion is wonderful since it only causes a slight peeling of the areas where I have applied it. I've tried everything you can name including Proactive and the dermatologist. Mama lotion has controlled the breakouts, smoothed my skin texture, and mimimized the look of my pores. The dark spots I have are slow to fade but it's getting there. It does sting but it's worth it. Suprisingly I can use it every night. It can peel off skin that is not ready and send it into wound mode and cause hyperpigmentation. Be patient and you can get your results. I also have some melasma from bcp's and the sun -- the darkness on my upper lip is really annoying! Anyways, I have been using MaMa lotion for about 3 weeks and my skin tone is MUCH better! My scars and melasma have lightened quite a bit. Regarding some of the negative comments others have said... I have not found a problem with the stickiness. You have to put a thin coat (per the directions) on the skin, and the lotion will tighten a bit -- it's not like a moisturizer, which you can add on top after 15 min (this is all in the directions). I have only noticed a sticky feel when I put on several coats in one area. There is a burning feel when first applied, for about 10 sec. Just fan your face and it should go away. I like this, as it really feels like it is working. However, after years of using retinols, alpha/beta hydroxy acids, etc, my skin is pretty desensitized to acidic products. I apply MaMa either 1 or 2x per day. New users with delicate skin may want to do a small patch test on a part of their skin. Interestingly, the people that have the most problems with burning and peeling seem to have used the lotion on elbows and knees... something to consider. There is a small amount of peeling, but nothing like Retin-A. And like another user's comment, I like there there is some peeling because increased cell turnover is what is supposed to happen -- it means it is working! I absolutely love this product, and now that I have "tested" it, I will tell all my friends and family. I had been using a retinol so just jumped right in to every other night routine. I'm peeling and I like that. It's not chunky peelies that leave your skin red and raw, but just light peel. And that's the only way this brown stuff is going to come off, right? I had a few superficial break outs but nothing major. It's strong, it works, and it doesn't seem so chemically like some of the other junk I've put on my skin. I definitely would recommend this. My melasma is improving more with MaMa than when I was using some very strong meds from the dermatologist. I think it's worth a shot. They weren't. This stuff is GREAT if you follow the directions. I am now using it 2X a week ONLY. I see a little drying but nothing a good moisturizer won't fix. Use caution in sensitive area like below the eyes. If you don't see results you are not following directions. I also have malasma and this has almost completely faded it around my mouth and cheeks. I have been using it for about 3 months. I am on here now to find a good day cream with sun block so my malasma doesn't come back. Be sure to use a good moisterizer as dry skin makes you look older. The clearness,smoothness, glowiness, oil free face has appeared and the Indentions and the Pitts are almost gone. I'm going on a cruise to Jamaica in June and my skin is going to be looking great. After about two weeks I decided the product did not work and stopped using it. Days after I made that decision my skin became dry and flaky and the outer skin started to fade away. My skin is not perfect yet, but the product IS working and I will be buying the full size. DO NOT pick at your skin while it is peeling (someone else on here said to do so and it was a BAD idea...my skin just got irritated where I had peeled it. Instead, just use a moisturizer and let the product do its job. You will be happy you did. Oh, and I used some on my knees and WOW if you have dark knees this is the perfect product for you! You can expect nice knees in 3 weeks I'd say! What I found out is if it doesn't absorb in a few minutes, You're using too much. A pea size drop is enough for the face. Let it dry completely before you add a moisturizer. I also notice when I am working on dark areas, they usually go darker before they exfoliate off. If you don't use sunscreen, you will make the dark spots worse. I have not see the "miraculous" results that others have seen and definitlly not in a quick time period, but now as I enter my 3rd month of use I am starting to notice differences. Mainly a gentle lightening of dark spots (which I'm hoping will continue till there are none), very much reduced pore size (which makes my skin look WAY smoother), and smaller pimples. No my acne is not 100% gone, but when i do get a pimple its very small and isolated as opposed to the large clusters of pimples that I was getting before. I think for those that aren't seeing changes, try and use acne medication in conjuction if acne is also a problem. I use benzyol peroxide wash and cream in the mornings and Mama at night. Also, when they say a little, they really mean a THIN layer. Cutting back on the amount that I was using on my face has really made a difference. We always tend to the think the more I use the better, but I think if I had be using less earlier on I would have seen results before 3 months. Also, i normally will use a little exfoliating granule wash before I apply the Mama to allow it to penetrate better. Be patient all and stick with it. Have large pores and oily skin. Over the years, it's become obvious that the large pores produce so much oil that my skin can get exfoliated fast enough to NOT cause breakouts. I would advise a trip to the dermatologist to first start a round of good antibiotics to rid your body of the crud. A week or so in, I would begin using this lotion. Once you're done with the antibiotic, your skin will hopefully (like mine)m be used to getting exfoliated with this product and maintain clarity. I am an African American female with a medium brown skin tone. Due to two pregnancies I had pretty uneven skin, especially around my mouth. This stuff really works. I think what most people should realize is that it is a peel,therefore it will make your skin peel. You will want to exfoliate to remove the dry skin. Also, you should be sure to use a facial lotion with a spf of at least 15. I use one with an spf30 and that helps with not turning the skin darker which is possible with most peels. I would not recommend placing this lotion on any part of your skin that you have picked at, it will cause it to burn really bad and may turn it into a sore. You should not pick at your face anyway. After using this product for a couple of months now, it has really helped to keep the acne at bay. I have finally found a combination of products that really works for me. I started taking B5 vitamins and after about 4 months, my skin is the clearest it has been since I was 13 years old. I went from having numerous giant pustule-type pimples all the time to having maybe 1 small whitehead once in awhile. Once my skin had started to clear, I started using MaMa lotion to help with my (significant) purple and red scars. Although the scars are not completely gone, they are getting better everyday. My advice: Follow the directions! If you use it more than you are supposed to at first, you will really disturb your skin and have peeling (although I never peeled that much--not like w/ some Rx medicines). Also, moisturize and sunblock all the time! I think this stops the scars from getting darker, as some people have complained. I apply the lotion at night, wait 15 minutes and moisturize. My skin is very soft and smooth and the scars are lighter every morning. I would totally recommend this product. ...AND If it Seems to Have STOPPED Workimg...  - Posted By: Sunny 07-16-2006 Like with ANY medication, and especially skincare product, your skin is prone to become accustomed to the treatment. When you work out, you don't want to do the same routine over and over again - your body adjusts and you stop losing as many calories, hence the effects become MINIMAL. If you use the same lotion over and over again, every day, your skin will get used to it - and to some people, a LOT quicker than others (this is actually a very good body response, tho not productive). Take a few days off, then use it again for a couple of days. Don't let your skin get used to it. The same goes for eye-creams (my friends always have this problem; the creams work and them suddenly stop working and they notice this too late). You have to alternate every bottle, or every six months - whichever is sooner. I have not used the same eye cream in five years, and at 32, I don't have a wrinkle on my face despite the half-pack of cigarettes I smoke everyday. My routine changes each time I ran out of a certain product, and I don't use the same product continously. Sometimes I alternate between two products (day and night eye creams is an example), or use one, but when I run out, I get a whole different brand with different ingredients (and usually, a reputable and reliable one). It's the same with this lotion, I only use it on a "needed" basis, and I don't use it continously (2-3 times a week, mostly as a topical cream to an affected area), and then stop. If I find myself using it 3 times a week for three weeks, I'll stop using it for a week or two and then go back to 3 times a week for another three weeks. The acne scars I got from the eczema ointment (black spots after the acne was gone) disappeared with the acne and heavy break-out. I even went for a tan after they were gone, and I must report that my skin is back to being the baby bottom soft skin it always was. My boyfriend loves my skin, he's a surgeon, and if the compliment comes from him, I'll definitely take it (believe it, it's very obvious he likes my skin). A lot of people have complained about this lotion and I've started using this 7 months ago, it does work... however, you'll have to know a bit about skincare in order to get the most out of it. Normally, I'll use it at night, right before going to bed. I would take a bath and exfoliate with a good scrub first. Afterwards, I'll dry, apply the lotion, let it absorb, then use a moisturizer and go to sleep. Not only did I see results, but I also saw small skin residue from peeling (like you would after a good burn out in the sun), and if that part of skin was to be exposed in the morning, I would ALWAYS ALWAYS use a good spf 30 before leaving the house. Proper skin care and preventive precautions are the best way to avoid having to go through all this pain... however, if such results, Mama lotion is a good product to have on your arsenal, just in case. I'm one of those people who spends hundreds and hundreds of dollars and doesn't spare a penny when it comes to my skin. At the age of 32, I still get carded for cigarettes (yes, I'm a smoker on top of it all). I have both eczema & psoriasis break-outs when I'm stressed, and dry skin - and the occasional big blackhead. I once had a very bad case of eczema & psoriasis break-out and had to use a doctor prescribed ointment that caused an IMMEDIATE (within hours) and major acne break-out on my belly! I had never had acne in my life, so I was shocked. After the eczema & psoriasis cleared 5 days later, I used the Mama lotion - 2 to 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Pealing is not immediately or obviously evident but it does occur. No scars, no spots, nothing - you couldn't tell that I had an acne break out (on the side of my belly (a place where I had never gotten a single zit, ever). The eczema & psoriasis medicine was great and the combination with MAMA lotion was amazingly perfect. I had a lot left, so I started using it under my arms. I wanted to see what would happen and I was hoping it would make my underarms clean and smooth (I have very fair skin, and after waxing you can sit small black dots where the hair folicles are or used to be). It doesn't normally clear the folicle areas, but it does make it clean and smooth, and with my summer tan, my underarms look like the ones in the Victoria's Secret catalogs - I know, I'm still surprised myself. The next thing I did (and yes, I've gone on a massive experimenting expedition), is used it on my chin where I get small tiny blackheads (under my lip), and then on my lower legs where I have a lot of scars from being a childhood tomboy. What do you know? It does work the way I hoped it would. I am absolutely amazed with this product, although I think it's very abrasive and don't really use it on my face. Nevertheless, it's perfect for your arms, legs and other areas of you body that you're trying to smooth over and clear unwanted spots. Take it from me, I am extremely selective and have used creams that were worth anything from $30 to $500 for a tiny bottle. Because of some of the eczema medicine, my pores became clogged and I've been getting pimples where I didn't used to. I'm concerned about stopping these breakout so that they don't cause permanent scarring for my fair skin, as well as preventing wrinkles. I've been using MaMa for several weeks (maybe a month) and it's slowly clearing up my skin and fading the marks from old pimples. If anyone is scared about the stinging, it's definitely the worst when you begin using MaMa and really only lasts for a minute or two. At this time, the only stinging is in areas where/when I'm starting to have an eczema breakout. Overall, it's worth the pain. Most importantly, I want people with eczema to know that this does not worsen the situation or increase eczema breakouts (and Renova did!). Please note that MaMa seems to simply increase the strength of the other products that you're using. Since it seems more like a "booster," if you're not using other products that are right for your skin, you may not see a significant difference. I'm using La Roche Posay Vitamin C lotion with MaMa and I feel like my skin is getting back to it's former state--which was very good (now I realize this!). However, I do think it is worth it! I bought this because after my doctor changed my contraceptive pill it basically gave me teenage bys acne, 10 months later and Ive been left with red pitted scars, (which the dermatologist said she coudl do nothing for until the redness went away, 1-2 years!), I use the proactive range and that keeps my skin clear but it was the scarring I was most worried about. I havent been out socailly for 10 months and i felt like my life was ruined, and Im only 23! I have to say after just 2 days I noticed an improvement, less redness and I swear the pitted scars were not as bad. I have been using the lotion once or twice a day as my skin can tolerate it, and after 5 days I can see a definite improvement! I also use Dr Brandt's microdermabrasion which helps keep pores unblocked. Please dont use mama lotion on broken skin though, I had a small scratch on my nose and the cream really stung! Gets the Job Done  - Posted By: Anonymous 06-17-2006 I've been using MaMa lotion for about 2 years now. Acne is a constant battle for me, and this lotion by no means solves the problem. I do find, however, that it reduces inflamation and helps the skin heal faster. As far as the peeling goes, I find that if I use it twice a day, all the skin on my face will peel within about 2 to 3 weeks of using it. It becomes a cycle for me, after the peeling phase begins I stop using the lotion for a while and wait for all the dead skin cells to slough off, and then I begin another round of treatment. So if you're not getting the results you want fast enough, just be patient. After reading alot of reviews and peoples expectiations, I gather some of you grow a little impatient when using Mama. It took years for your pigmentation to develope and it will take time for it to fade. Don't give up so easily. If you feel like you need a little more exfoliation, try a little micro derm cream once a week on days you're not using Mama. My esthetician told my not to peel off skin, but to use a gentle scrub to remove it. You can worsen pigmentation by peeling it off. I really like the Physicaians Complex Micro-derm cream. Just be gentle when applying it. It really does the job. Mostly, don't forget to use SUNBLOCK! I learned that the hard way. I couldn't ignore so many good reveiws coming from women of color. I've tried everything to clear up my acne and/or the dark spots they leave behind. So I figured it couldn't hurt to try one more product. I'm pleasantly surrpised. MaMa lotion isn't too strong for me. I use it at night, every night. Since our skin does most of it's healing while we're sleeping, I thought putting the lotion on might aid that process. My skin's main problem it's that it doesn't shed as fast as it should. Gentle exfoliation is what I need most. MaMa lotion is definitely speeding the new skin to the surface, but my skin isn't peeling (the only thing that got my skin to peel was Retin-A, but I stay away from synthetic and harsh products.) It also did cause one or two large, hard pimples to form, but they cleared up in no time. After a month, I have smoother skin. I have a few less bumps. The dark marks are just now showing the first signs of fading. I knew I was on the right track when about 5 or 6 people all told me my skin was looking much better. I'll keep it up. I'll write my next review after six months. Oh! A little goes a LOOOOONG way. I can't believe how much I have left. Brown mixed and olive skin tone  - Posted By: Lola 05-19-2006 I have been using this lotion for few months on and off, it works just fine, however one thing we have to realize especially for women of darker and olive skin tone( Hispanic, black, mixed) in order for this product to really work you have to use an broad spectrum sun screen, not just the one over the counter, you want o make sure that it has zinc and Tatanium. this web site has these particular sun screen. it a bit expensive than the one over the counter ones, however they work best if you are using any peeling agent on our type of skin. and for those who's skin darkened, start using a lot of sun screen and skin lotion such aveeno, your skin should eventually go back to it natural state. good luck!
